Movies in the Park

What do you do when the movies in the park selection is blah? Or, you live in a town that doesn't have this particular activity?

You can sigh and hope next years movie selections don't have ones you've seen recently or that make you lose IQ points just thinking about them?.....

You can cross you fingers that next year some local business (or you could win the lottery) will buy a giant inflatable screen and start showing movies.....

Or......

.....you can pack up the car and set up your own movie night at the park of your choosing!

The screen may be a wee bit smaller, but it's much less crowded, your chairs can be any height you want, no worries about blocking the people behind you and you can choose whatever movie you want!

After doing this for most of the Fridays in August and September, I finally remembered to take pics at the last one!

We ate home made BBQ chicken pizza and watched part the 10th Kingdom.

WHAT?! You've never heard of the 10th Kingdom?

It's a miniseries that was on TV in 2000. I found it on Netlfix a few years ago and fell in love. It's a quirky, hilarious, romantic and magical. The trolls and Wolfie (he is the BEST character)  are a hoot and it's become one of my favorite movies!

I leave the decision of appropriateness of it for everyone to make for their own families. I definitely think it's okay for teens and older, but for younger kids an adult previewing it might not be a bad idea as there is some fantasy violence and innuendos.

I was trying to convince a friend of the awesomeness of it when we where at a local tea house and the guy behind the counter came slinking over and said he couldn't help over hearing, but he loved the movie and wasn't it amazing? He'd never met anyone else who had seen it and was glad to find another fan, so we compared favorite parts and my friend promised to check it out!

So, you don't need to take my word for it, tea guy thinks it's awesome too, and anyone who works at a tea  shop is automatically cool, right? ;-)

A Shine of Rainbows

This being St. Patrick's week (What? You didn't think someone as obsessed with Ireland as I am would only celebrate St. Patrick's Day for one day, did you?) I decided to go ahead and watch this movie that had been lingering in my Netflix queue for awhile now! Added mostly because it took place in Ireland and I knew it even if the story was meh the scenery and accents would be worth it! No need to worry here though, the story was incredibly sweet! In addition, the costumes (and accents, but that goes without saying!) were AMAZING, especially Marie's, I loved her layering and use of color! =)

Here is a synopsis of the movie (stolen from Netflix because as my teachers (Mom and otherwise) will tell you, my book reports tended to be longer then the actual books, summarizing is not a strong suit of mine!)
Ostracized 8-year-old orphan Tomás (John Bell) finds his colorless life transformed after spirited Maire (Connie Nielsen) adopts him and instills in him the confidence to make friends -- and magic -- in this inspirational Irish tale of self-discovery. But the boy's hopes for a bright future are in danger of fading when Maire's husband, Alec (Aidan Quinn), has trouble accepting the withdrawn Tomás.

Her knit wear was fabulous and in such wonderful colors!

At first I though this was a skirt, but then when her coat came off I realized it was a dress with an over-skirt? Would love to know!

Here is another shot of this outfit before her (splendid) coat comes off, see the high-low hem? Love it!

The petticoat just peeking out the bottom is a sure way to make me love on outfit!

The other costumes were just as wonderful!

How could you not love a guy in a fishermen sweater smoking a pipe? I ask you, who could resist? ;-)

Never Say Never

I am a bad one for making I will never type statements and then somewhere along the road having to eat humble pie as I am doing what I said I never ever would do!

For example.....
I will never wear a thumb ring, they are so stupid.....

I will never cut my hair short again.....

I will never like coffee.....
.....and the list goes on and on, pierced ears, high heels, eating onions, mushrooms, liking to drive ect ect ect!

And most recently.....

I will never watch Courageous.....

Last night I was at a friends house and guess what we watched? I even had a pretty legitimate out if I wanted it, but did I take it? Nope, I did not!

Things I liked:

These two guys had it pretty together already, and I loved their family dynamics!

It was much funnier then I expected and my favorite part?

And like I've mentioned before, I agreed with the message of the movie and wouldn't have a problem if my husband wanted to sign the Resolution! But, my ORIGINAL REASONS  for not wanting to watch the movie still stand even after reading the book, The Resolution for Women and seeing the movie!

There was only one thing I didn't like and to tell you the truth it really bugged me.....

My biggest problem with the movie is that except for two or three, all of the bad guys were black. Um, what's up with that Sherwood Pictures?!?

It was a really good movie and I would recommend it to anyone, with a cation to those among us who are female.....do NOT get unrealistic expectations and try to "help" (aka force, nag, hen peck ect ect ect.....) your husband into watching, acting upon this movie. It just won't turn out good!

Munch N' Movies

Late summer nights+pizza+giant inflatable movie screen= Munch N' Movies!
They do four movies every year and sadly enough E.T. was the only one worth seeing this year!

Sorry about the color, this was taken with my cell phone!

Eating cake pops! I was really excited about cake pops, until I read a recipe on how to make them.....

I told her to smile and look cute.....

My Moms friend Maura and my Mom

Me and Becca, she doesn't look scary this time!

The main excitement of the night? Seeing this guy.....click on the picture and take a REAL good look! I'll wait while you puzzle it out! I'll give you a clue......he doesn't have a name, it's really more of a tittle!

Introducing The Wardrobe Department and Various Other Ramblings

~I've decided to call my outfit posts The Wardrobe Department, like for movies and T.V.....Okay I know it's kind of dorky but I love seeing what people are wearing almost as much as I love the content of movies and such. I will keep watching something that I don't like if the costumes are good! =)

~Still listening to my High Kings Pandora station and still in love with it! It's Marie's Wedding by the High Kings right now....arm for arm and row an' row all for Marie's wedding, lalalalalalalala..... =-D

~I have a lunch of banana yogurt, blackberries and grape nuts waiting for me, yum!! I already mixed it up and am letting the grape nuts soften because as much as I love them, those little boogers are hard as rocks right out of the box! I wonder, what happens when they go stale? Do they get even harder?

~Thanks to the advice of an uppity tech snob......ahem.....a friend, I now have spell check on my browser, so no more having to copy and paste my Face Book text into a word document to spell check it! What, I can't be the only one who did that *crickets chirping* okay maybe I was.....

What to do with my hands? My short litle T-Rex arms DO NOT allow for artful draping.....
Dress- Apt 9 via eBay
Cami- Jc Penny tanktop
Boots- Wal-Mart

I know! I'll walk across a log! I love it when other fashion bloggers have pictures of themselves walking across logs.....Hmm, what?....Wait are you saying that they have real logs? And are outside?.....Oh well, one must work with what one has and what I have an overactive imagination.....and short little T-Rex arms! ;-)

No, I am not wearing tights, my legs come by that unearthly paleness naturally thank you very much! They should be cast in the next big vampire movie, they could make millions! Heeey wait......

*sigh* I promise that these earrings are green, just a really dark forest green!
Earrings- Bought from Amanda Flynn through her BLOG
Necklace- made by me

Wait, I thought this movie was coming out at Christmas? It's coming out May 20th? Yeah!!!! Hmm, maybe I should actually see the third one, though since Johny Depp didn't think the second two movies were worth watching (ouch) maybe it's not really necessary.....

Favorite Movies

Ellie over at http://cherokeland.blogspot.com/ is hosting a favorite things link up! head on over and link up, today's theme is movies.=)

Here are three of my favorite movies, not in any particular order!

~Bewitched~

~Sherlock Holmes (2009)~

~Labyrinth~

Comparisons:
1. They are all on my favorites list
2. The costumes in all of them alone are worth watching the movies for.
3. I love the hair of the main guys in movies one and two, not so much in three!

Contrasts:
1. Two PG 13 one PG
2. One is a romantic comedy, one is an action adventure movie and the other is a kids movie
3. Only one had a sequel (well soon it will have a sequel!)

Kristin Chenoweth

I love Kristin Chenoweth. The first thing I saw here in was the 2003 remake of The Music Man (which I like better then the original, but as this upsets people let's just keep this between you and me, 'kay?)

Since then I've seen her in the now defunct Pushing Daisies, Bewitched and guest starring on a few episodes of Glee (which is a whole different rant, don't get me started on the direction they took that show!)

My White Knight, love this song!

I've sat staring at the sky singing this song in my head more times then I'd care to admit!

It looks like the color scheme for her wardrobe was pink and green, my two favorite colors to pair together!

This one isn't from the movie, but I love it so much I had to include it! If you want another laugh look up Taylor's Rebuttal on YouTube, very funny!

Beauty

Another entry for the Belle event, click here for more. http://spacious-soul.livejournal.com/55065.html
Pretty much the best; this could actually happen in real life, version of Beauty and the Beast that I have ever seen! The book needs to be read too, Beauty by Susan Wilson. I caught it on Life Time a loooong time ago and had been wanting to see it again. And in spite of my frequent e~mails, the production company has yet to answer me about getting it on tape. I was over joyed when I stumbled across the entire movie on You Tube! It's in eleven parts, but still shorter then if you had to watch it with the commercials! Enjoy!!

Day 24~ A Movie no one Would Expect You to Love

I'm going to change it up a little and post a movie that everyone expects me to love and I hate! I like to wide a range of movies to truly surprise anyone with my likes.

I truly loathe Barbara Streisand! I love musicals, but for some reason this woman drives me insane and puts me to sleep all at the same time! This is the only one I've ever attempted to watch and I feel asleep in the first 15 minutes! :-P

Munch N' Movies

I finally made it to one of the movies in the park! The first one I was gone and the second one it rained and they cancelled it! It was Twilight, yes I am a fan. The books are way better but they did an okay job on the movie.

Hmmmmm, kettle corn!
Ummm, what can I say about this?=)

Frozen banana, yum! But very, very messy.

Trying to throw and catch popcorn. I've got the throwing part down, now I've just to work on the catching. Becca (pictured) is the best at it!

The screen, and it appears I caught Megan in mid chew. Smile Megan!!

Next week is the last one, Kung Foo Panda. So, sad it mean summers officailly over.=(

Munch N' Movies

rEver been to a drive in? I had always wanted to go, but I've never gotten to go. So imagine my excitement when a couple of years ago they advertised Munch N' Movies. A FREE movie played on a ginormous inflatable screen outside at a park. Awesome right? The first year was really great, then the next year they had to turn the sound way down at 10 because people had complained to the cops about the noise. Then the next year La-Z-Boy pulled there funding and the event was shut down.

TA-DA! Northwest Crossing has brought it back starting August 21 at Compass Park. The music starts at 6 but the movie starts at dusk. My family just grabs a pizza or Luchables(I still love Lunchables, does anyone else?) a blanket and settle in for the show! Sometimes Kettle corn is purchased, they sell food; hence the Munch part of the tittle, because it smells so good.=)

The movies this year are:
August 21 Wall-E (I won't be here for that one, so sad!)
August 28 Twilight (I admit I'm a fan)
September 4 The Princess Bride (You won't be able to keep me away from this one!)
September 11 Kung Fu Panda (Jack Black, need I say anything more?)

Come join me at the park for a one of a kind experience. Well, unless you go more then once then it's not really a one of a kind experience is it?(hehe)

Night at the Museum

If you haven't gone to see the Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian you need to! We went for little sis's b~day and it was very funny! It's seems to me that the humor is more adult this time but not in a bad inappropriate way. It's just not as much slap stick, dum-dum-gum-gum type funny. The humors a little more, hmmmm shall we say verbal this time around? Regardless of my vain attempts to describe the humor all ages were laughing and having a good time. So, if you have some time go and see this movie. You have to see it in theaters, it just wouldn't be the same on a small screen. I saw the first one in theaters and then when I saw it again on the small screen, it wasn't the same! So, spring for the ticket(remember Costco tickets!) and go to the movies!

Oh, and on a side note, if all of you people who refuse to turn your cell phones off would like a dark, loud, pleasantly cool room to text in I've got a closet free. I can give you a radio and a fan and not bother you for the next two hours! Hey since you think your so special and above the rules, I'll even supply snacks, for a NOMINAL(right Tim?) fee of course.=)

UP!

If you haven't gone to see the new PIXAR movie UP, you need to stop reading this and go right now! I love PIXAR movies and got together a group friends and went last night. I don't care what age you are this movie is great. I wouldn't bother with the 3D though, it would just seem superfluous and detract from the movie rather then enhance.

Carl and Elle are to kids with a love of adventure and desire to one day travel to Paradise Falls to follow in the foot steps of their favorite explorer. They grow up together and fall in love and live a beautiful life together. Most of this is done with out words. It was wonderful and made me cry! Despite saving their pennies they never do make it to Paradise Falls. The rest of the movie follows Carl learning to live with out Elle and finding a new lease on life.

I'm not going to tell you anything else, you just need to go see it for your self! Don't worry about anyone in the family being bored, it will keep everyone entertained. Another tip, if you have a Costco card buy your movie tickets there it's way cheaper!
