I friend of mine did a post on Halloween and it has inspired me to do one of my own!
Next to Christmas Halloween was my favorite holiday, the decorations, the spooky feeling, the candy and of course the dressing up! For those of you with strong powers of observation you will notice that I used the word was in the previous sentence. Yes, my family has chosen to no longer celebrate Halloween.
No, we do not yell at any trick or treaters who come to our house and we don't condemn anyone who does celebrate it. Though I do have to agree with my friend, Halloween costumes have gotten waaaay to sexy in recent years and I do have to admit to being judgmental about that aspect of it.
We researched it (and when I say we, I mean my parents, I was 12, cut me some slack!) and found that all of the traditions and actives were used to keep the demons/evil away or to draw them/it in. Hmm, not exactly something we wanted to be involved in. Again, if you have no problem with Halloween, fine, we won't look down at you or judge you, but we also ask that you do the same for us! God has called us to this, if He hasn't called you, who are we to force our views upon you?
We participated in our churches Halloween alternative harvest party for a few years, but something always bugged me about it and I could never put my finger on why. Only in the past few years have I found the reason.
If the churches feel the need to offer a Halloween alternative, does that mean there's something wrong with it in the first place? If so, shouldn't they find out why they feel the need to call the parties at this time of year anything but a Halloween party?
The don't call the Christmas party a winter time party and they don't call Easter egg hunts spring festivals and offer alternatives to these holidays. They just have the events and don't bother to change the name. Why don't they just have Halloween parties?
If it really is just to provide a warm indoor place with prescreened candy to the kids, why the name change? So, in effect it's not Halloween it self that makes me cringe this time of year, it's the church dancing around an issue they obviously feel convicted about, but don't want to take a stand on because they might "lose" people. If something like that will make you "lose" people, did you really "have" them in them first place?
If your going to celebrate Halloween then celebrate it, but don't slap a different name on it and try to make it seem like you aren't celebrating it when you are. If you feel the need to call it something else, you might want to take a look at why!
I leave you with this verse: Revelation 3:16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

Bewitched, chiffon, missing pieces and my date with Will??
Believe it or not, this is the only picture I could find of Isabelle's b-e-a-utiful skirt and.....
Wait! What skirt? Who's Isabelle? And further more, why should we care?.....
Okay, okay enough questions, I'll tell you if you'd just let me get a word in edge wise!.....
I guess.....
Ehem.....as I was saying. I have always loved Isabelle's outfit for her date with Jack.....
Who's Jack?.....
*Sigh* Are you quite finished?.....
Oh, yes, so sorry. Please by all means continue! I will be as silent as the grave.....
Thank you now where was I.....
You were.....
*Glare*.....
Oops, sorry!.....
Okay, enough silliness, back to the post! I love the movie Bewitched and I have to admit I'm a huge Will Ferral fan when he's being sweet and not crude. So, I guess that's pretty much Elf and this movie!
Isabelle wears a chiffon pettiskirt and an embroidered blue sweater and I looove it. In fact I want her entire wardrobe! It was this movie that inspired me to cut my hair shorter, though mine turned out a tad bit, how shall I say it.....pooffier then hers? ;-)
But, none of the crinolines I found looked as flowy/poofy. They were all made of tulle and looked far to stiff. Then I saw this one on Etsy and had a renewed interest in recreating the outfit. But, even though this one was my size, I don't think I could wear something that was vintage and costs that much!
You can buy the skirt below HERE on Etsy.
The skirt pictured above is made out chiffon. Ah ha! The missing piece to the puzzle. I was looking for the wrong thing! I googled chiffon pettiskirt and came up with THIS web site. Tons of colors, all the different sizes and they are about half the price of the vintage one. The draw back, where to wear it? I guess if I do get one and Will Ferral comes knockin' at my door I'll know exactly what to wear!!

Penelope Coat ~Part Four~
The store only had two packages of piping in this berry color, so I only had enough to do the front seams and the cuffs. I was a little worried as I had just kind of mishmashed some sleeve patterns together after cutting them apart. This sleeve is a combo of a couple patterns and a picture of a pirate sleeve I saw once! No big problems so far, fingers crossed the rest will go this smoothly too, as long as I can find the right piping!
I can wear the sleeves with the cuff folded up, or down. They are cuff link style sleeves if that makes sense to anyone! =)
The piping hasn't been has hard to sew on as I thought it was going to be, especially since it's all going onto curved seams! I always seem to do this to myself, I never start with an easy project to learn something!

New Glasses/Fun Nail Polish
Yes, for those of you how know me this is my second new pair of glasses in 2 years, but the first new pair got wonky and never really felt like me. So, I went back to the old ones. I got the new glasses itch again after finding out you could order glasses on the Internet. I'm all up for that! I found the perfect pair at Eye Buy Direct for $7.95!! How could I not jump on that?
The frames, lenses, anti-reflective coating, scratch proofing and shipping totaled $19.95! I got them on Friday and the prescription is perfect. I love them and will be ordering new sunglasses from them next spring.=)
Detail on the bows.=)
I also got my mood ring nail polish in the mail, it's pretty awesome, though I have discovered my nails are cold most of the time! I thought I had pretty warm hands, maybe just my nails are cold! ;-)
The video is almost too exciting, but just keep a tight hold on the edges of your seats and you should be fine!!

Southern Ireland!

This will be a bit of a downer, but being rejected and alone!
7. Are you a morning or night person?
I'm a total night owl, but if I stay up late enough I could be a morning person, right?hehe
(Who knew there would be so many results when googling the phrase, winking owl?)
8. What is your favorite time of the year?
After years of trying to reach a final decision, and never being able to I've finally narrowed it down to Labor Day through New Years!

I found these leaves at Joann's, aren't they lovely? They reminded me of some earrings I recently got, I wanted teal and she was all out. But, the teal sparkly leaf earring itch is now satisfied!!=)
A pendant I picked up at the same time, I strung it on some "leather" cord and tied some slip knots so I can adjust the length.
Yes, I bought it! I am wearing it today and every time I look down it makes my heart feel happy!=)

~Day Five~
I must remember that I need to take pictures later or earlier, right now the sun blows out the color. But, an odd work schedule this morning and a dinner/movie night with my girls makes this the only time I've got!=)
I would like you to met one of the reasons skirts and dresses make up most of my wardrobe, my 24 inch in seam, stubby legs! But, after watching Tin Man with Zooey Deschanel and Alan Cummings I had to look for a pair of wide legged sailor jeans. Great movie by the way, I would recommend it!
Have you ever made fashion choices (sometimes misguided!) based on your current favorite movie or book?

Surprise!
Have you ever been shocked when you discover that some of your favorite actors can also sing? I know I'm always surprised, here are some of my more startling discoveries!
~Hugh Jackman~
Best know to me as Wolverine from the X-Men movies.
Here he is as Curly from Oklahoma!
~Mandy Patinkin~
Best know to me as Inigo Montoya from The Princess bride and Huxley from Elmo in Grouchland.
Best know to me as Inigo Montoya from The Princess bride and Huxley from Elmo in Grouchland.
Mandy singing over the rainbow.
~Anne Hathaway~
Best know to me for her roll in the Princess Diaries.
Fact, did you know that Anne was supposed to play Christine in the most recent Phantom of the Opera remake, but due to scheduling conflicts with the second Princess Dairy movie had to back out?
~Antonio Banderas~
Best known to me for his rolls as Zorro and Puss in Boots.
Fact, do you know he was promised the role of the Phantom on the most recent remake of Phantom of the Opera? The director pulled his contract when it was decided he wanted to go for a younger cast.
Last one, I promise! Hmm, it seems I'm mostly surprised when actors can sing, maybe it's because of the roles I've seen them play?
~Gerard Butler~
Best know to me for his rolls in dear Frankie and Tomb Raider
Meet Eric, the Phantom of the Opera!

Shoes- Target, used to have BIG bows on them, I felt like a matador so took them off!
Necklace-Made by me
Earrings- Made by me/Wal-Mart, they started out life as three pumpkins hanging off of each other in a row. I didn't like that so my Mom and I split the cost, $3, and I came home and took them apart coming up with these! So for three dollars I now have made two pairs of earrings and have the supplies for a third, anybody interested?=)

The Coffee Song
Day five of the Autumn Fashion Show!
Eek, I didn't realize how different of a shade of brown the shoes were until I saw the picture.....maybe a footwear change is in order!
Shirt- Wal-Mart

If anyone else has a coffee habit, you need to try the new flavored Via. Make it with milk instead of water and you have a straight from the coffee house treat for a fraction of the cost! I've tried the vanilla, cinnamon and the caramel, all very good!=)
This song was on my first Frank Sinatra CD and I have to laugh every time I hear it!=)
