Happy May Day!!

 Happy May Day! My family started celebrating this holiday when I was 12. I had just read Louisa May Alcott's Jack and Jill and fell in love with the idea and talked my family into it. So, now every year on May Day, we make baskets the night before, fill them with flowers, hugs and kisses(the chocolate kind, of course!) and deliver them(for the most part) before the sun comes up.

 My fav baskets are old frappachino bottles with simple wire handles. They remind me of old fashioned milk bottles!

The all important caffeine boost for making all the handles. Me, being the one with experience with wire gets that job!

Click on the pic to see the handle more clearly, I couldn't get a clear picture and was to tired to try anymore!

 A close up, just because I love my macro feature!

The baskets after they have all been filled

Sneaky, sneaky.....

Run!

La, de, da de da!!

More Signs of Spring!

The daffa-down-dillies are blooming!

Our plum tree is in bloom, it smells so good!

And I've rescued my favorite chair from it's spidery winter home in the shed! My little brother was "trying" it out for me, the sword was found rolled up in the chair, he was very happy about it's return.=)

Spring Break and Sewing Projects

We went to the High Desert Museum today, during spring break.....  yep, it's spring! I had some days off and the sky spirits decided to punish me, so the last two days have been snow and rain!

The front pond, neat reflections, right?=)

It was pretty neat walking through the outside exhibits with it all snowy. It definitely added to the atmosphere.

The wild life observation shelter, not much wild life out and about right now! Though the Bob Cat and Lynx were roaming around in their cages as opposed to the tongue lolling stupor we usually get to see them in!! So, that was pretty cool!

So happy!

Look closely and you will see how well the squirrel(Have I ever mentioned how much I love spell check? Who knows off hand how to spell squirrel, though I got surprisingly close!) proofing works on the bird feeder!

The root cellar. Back in my day you could go inside, but alas not any longer!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A preview of some of the spring/summer sewing projects I have piled on my sewing desk!
I *heart* cherries!
Can these two very different fabrics be made into the same style of dress? Not in the same dress just to clarify, just made into the same faux halter style! I had a sister who was horrified when she saw me taking pics of these fabrics together, she though it was all going to be made into one dress!
Before.....shapeless and worn only once after 2 months of feverish crocheting.....
Pending after, you'll just have to wait to see what it turns into. It will be worn on Easter though!
(fingers crossed!)
The fabric underneath is a very light yellow, but obviously the camera washed the color out a bit, so sad.=(
The First Signs!
Spring is coming!!!
These bleeding heart shoots are a little scary looking. Like little purple hands reaching up out of the thawing earth. Just waiting for someone to get close enough......
New Toy
I found a new toy today! You can gather pics from all over the net and use them to create collages(Old school word I know. I'm sure there is a more modern one out there!) Can you tell I was feeling springy today?
May Day
My family started to celebrate May Day after I read about it in a book. I bothered my Mom enough and we started giving out May baskets about 5 to 6 years ago. Now the whole family loves it and we have fun every year. Here are some of the things we've learned.
1. When making the may baskets start before 10pm the night before May day!
2. Adding water to the jars is NOT an option when the candy is already in the jars (Go ahead and ask me how I found that one out!)
3. A giant red 15 passenger van is the most stealthy car in the world! Nobody can see us we are the blend masters!
4. Kids are prone to be tired at 6am, so making them run around outside in the dark holding glass jars is a wonderful idea.
5. Barking dogs sound much louder at 6am, though they do make the kids run back to the car much quicker.
6. When you've been spotted out of the front window dropping to the ground and army crawling to the front porch is probably not the most subtle way to avoid further detection(But does that stop us? Nope, the army crawl is here to stay!)
7. When you have a long driveway to go down ducking your heads in the car so it appears to be driving it self is a sure fire way to make the man innocently eating his breakfast; at the table right in front of the window, with a perfect view of his 1/4 mile long drive, not wonder what on earth the Pillsburys are doing now!
8. And the final thing we've learned is have fun and always use your oldest sister as the May Pole!
Spring is Here?
It was beautiful a week ago, our early flowers were up and blooming. The flowering trees started to show some color and now they are all covered in snow! It's frustrating, but I love it here all the same!
Central Oregon's weather is unpredictable at best,
It puts our peace of mind and patients to a test,
It's warm in the middle in winter,
In spring the snow does fall,
The poor weather mans kept on his toes,
Just trying to make the call!
Before the season turned to spring,
Our flowers started growing,
But now that it is April,
Of course it's started snowing!
Our studded tires we have removed,
Like good boys and girls are we,
Now we wish we had them back,
Never mind the fee!
The seasons they mean nothing here,
Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall,
Coming all on one day sometimes,
We deal with them all!
I know we get them all at once,
The sun, the rain, the snow,
But I don't care, I love living here,
Hip~hip hooray for Central O!
