Hello Again!

I know, I know, it's been awhile, what can I say? Life has been busy!

Got my first smart phone, a Samsung Galaxy s3 for those interested in the tech side of things, with Straight talk, which even with buying the phone and a warranty on the phone will be soooo much cheaper! And I found the perfect case, protection on all sides because let's face it, I'm a klutz and it's representing one of my top 5 favorite movies!

Went to the Nashville zoo with the family, it was pretty fun!

Fall is here!! It might be in the 80's during the day still, but the leaves are starting to change and it's actually cold in the mornings, it's COLD here people, let's celebrate with sweaters and hot coffee!!

I've got 3 words for you.....Fried. Food.Festival! The fried pizza was pretty good, but the Oreo's and veggies were sadly a little flavorless and soggy! =(

My church did the coolest thing. We all wrote down our favorite verses on post-it notes and stuck them to the wall, then next Sunday we all get to take someones verse home with us, what a great way to share parts of Gods word that have touched your life!

Insta-Life

A tortilla with crunchy peanut butter and marshmallows then broiled till the marshmallows are golden and delicious! =)

I was tempted to try these by one of those devious little Costco sample ladies and it was sooo worth it!

 Summer's here and it is HOT!

 And there was one more thing.....what was it.....some other big change....oh well, I'll let you know when I remember! ;-)

Caves and Glasses and EMT's, Oh My!

Yes, I am in fact alive, just busy, being a grown up having a real job can do that to a person! Between working 10 hour days and commuting an hour each way, most days it seems like all I do is wake up, drive to work, work, drive home and fall asleep again!

But, we did manage to get the whole family together and take a hike a few weeks ago! Sorry for the poor picture quality, my camera which was.....goodness.....7 years old?.....finally died so these were taken with my "dumb" phone!

I love caves! Though this one, maybe not so much anymore.....it's pretty short and exits right by the river and my siblings and I had just seen the light at the end of the tunnel when.....

.....my dad fell and this happened.....

My dad had slipped, caught himself wrong and ruptured a tendon in his knee. He will get better, it just means a long summer of recovery!   

In more exciting news, one of the perks of the real job is having health insurance, which means I could finally get the glasses with the Crizal lenses I'd been drooling over for years.....yes, I've been pining after anti glare lenses, I'm that cool! 

The frames are Hungry Heart in Cherry Bomb by Rivet and Sway, and sadly enough they just went of business. I loved how they would send you three pairs of frames to try on at home, especially since I have a big head and am super picky about the fit of my frames! 

I snuck in under the wire with them and am super happy I did, I LOVE my new glasses and the lenses are as awesome as I'd hoped! So even though you can't get the frames, the lenses are definitely worth the extra money, which I didn't have to spend thanks to the perk of health insurance! ;-)

My Saturday.....

Went grocery shopping with my Mom, got a delicious iced white chocolate/creme de menthe coffee, and then my Mom went to work and the kids went to something at the library, so I had the WHOLE house to myself for almost two hours (I haven't had real alone time at home for a couple years, and no, driving back and forth to work sooooo does NOT count!)

Chex Mix

A standard if kind of meh snack food that I never really got excited about, until my friend/coworker/crowd controller/fellow prison guard (depending on the day) AKA Grace, brought some homemade Chex Mix to work.....

.....Can you say UH-mazing! 

It all to quickly ran out and her Mom only makes it at Christmas, sad day freinds, sad day! 

And so we'd been rendered tasty-salty-slightly sweet-crunchy snack free, at least until I decided to stop being lazy and made some myself!

I found the base recipe on, where else, Pinterest and changed it up a bit, because where's the fun in following the recipe? ;-)

Chex Mix

1 stick butter

1/4 C worcestershire sauce

1 tsp spicy salt

1 tsp pepper

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

3 C Wheat Chex

3 C Rice Chex 

3 C Apple Cinnamon Chex or Corn Chex

1 C pretzels

1 cup roasted salted peanuts

Preheat oven to 250.

Melt butter, add next 5 ingredients, set aside.

Mix rest of ingredients in a LARGE bowl and pour butter mix over it, toss to coat. Pour into an 11x15 pan, with sides, and cook for one hour, stirring every 15 mins.

Let cool, then store in an airtight container!

  

A few notes on the above recipe.....

You can of course substitute any mix of cereals you want, I added three cups of the wheat Chex, instead of just the one cup it called for and just added less of the others. The wheat are my fav, and since I'm making it I can be prejudiced that way, so there! =P

The original recipe also called for Bugles, which I wanted to add, but they didn't have them where I was buying everything else, so those will have to wait for the next batch!

The apple cinnamon Chex are amazing, so even if they seem weird, I promise the sweetness pairs really well with the savory butter mixture. Grace's Mom put apple cinnamon cheerios in her mix, so I can't claim the taste sensation as my own!

'bama Birthday Trip!

Went to visit my sis for her b-day surprised her by bringing my Mom....

 .....and cake! Chocolate espresso raspberry cake to be more specific!

Don't know if she was more excited to see us or the presents and cake.....we'll I guess it is a pretty awesome cake!! Love you sis, I'm so glad we got to celebrate with you! ;-)

Not a Bad Way.....

.....to spend my 10:30am (yes, when I open at work, my lunch hour is that early!) break! =)

The chocolate was amazing, the book is kind of terrifying!
