Day 3 and a teaser!

This is day three of the modest fashion event over at Natasha's Blog!

Green Shirt- Jc Penny $11
Button Down-$15?
Skirt-Cold Water Creek $20
Boots- Naturalizer-$140
Brooch- Vintage Jewelry Swap!

I love brooches and as I have so many just sitting there waiting for prince charming to come along (like me!) I decided I would let some of them see the light of day!

One of the other girls showed us her mismatched socks and said she liked the touch of whimsy it added to an outfit. It made me smile, but rather then the good reason she had, I'm just lazy and don't pair the socks up when I put them away and get dressed in the dark!

Guess what post is coming tomorrow?!

*Light Bulb*

Yes, I'm quoting Gru, he is awesome and that is that!

I am constantly collecting ideas for parties and weddings and other various events. I came across these adorable faerie lanterns and after drooling for a few minutes I got to down to figuring out how they were made.

I'm a big one for saying, I could make that, no need to buy! Then I never end up with whatever it is and instead have paved my road with good intentions and not much else. (and believe me, good intentions are no replacement for a decent winter wardrobe.....Brrrrr!)

I decide to set off into the cyber world and see if I could realistically make a set of six of these for less then $115.

Item one: Jar $4.75
It looks to me like it's a quart jar and after looking a few places the average seems to be about $4.75 for 6.

Item 2: Handle $10
After looking at the picture bigger it appears to be brown floral tape wrapped around wire, both of these items come in at least 5 yard packages and are less then $5 apiece. So, let's just say $10 for the handles, a package of each.

Item three: Wooden Hearts $1.75
You can get ten wooden hearts for $1.75, and we will allow for some messing around with the wood burner and say we need all ten.

Item four: Moss $10
The brown moss is way cheaper, but the green looks so much better. I'm not sure how much is in each jar, but  think two one pound bags will be enough.

Item five: Mini Battery Powered Christmas Lights $35
By far the most expensive item and the one you are most likely going to have to buy online. They run about $3.75 a string and 6 sets would be $22.50, but since we are assuming online ordering I added some shipping cost in.

The grand total? $48.95!
So, yes Veronica not only is there a Santa Claus, but this time I could actually make this item for less then I could buy it! =)

I'm putting some links for the sites were I found the light *snicker* because they seem the most difficult to find. If you are planning an event and know you want to make these, after Christmas would be an excellent time, all those good sales on the decorations!

The craft items should be readily available at a craft store, and the jars at any grocery store. Come to think of it, I may have seen the light *snicker* at Micheal's for those little snow villages?

Brooch Bouquet

Remember MY POST about brooch bouquets? I said that I was thinking about collecting the brooches to make my own..........

Well, I decided and now am on my way to collecting the 60-75 pieces that I need. In googling the making of them I found Fantasy Floral Designs , you need to look at all of the gorgeous bouquets that they have done. After looking through those, I was a little intimidated, but still willing to try. But, the only tutorials I could find used Styrofoam balls, and I did not want to use one, all of the ones made that way looked odd to me.

I persevered and then found this very good tutorial! http://mysanfranciscobudgetwedding.wordpress.com/tag/diy-brooch-bouquet/

Here are the pieces I've collected so far.

Brooch Bouquets

These bouquets are entirely made out of earrings and brooches. They are also entirely waaaaay to expensive for me to even contemplate having one, I may have to start collecting the pieces to make one for myself!!

Happy Honeymoon

My big sis is having a great time getting married again on her honeymoon to New York. No really, she's getting the whole shebang again only this time it's bigger and cost about 3 times as much! Flower girls, a preacher, brides maids, groomsmen, cake, dancing.........another entire wedding. The family in New York didn't want to fly to the west coast so they just decided to just have themselves another wedding over there! Most people think it's a little odd(myself included!) but hey at least she gets to wear the dress again, right?

They are staying in a nice B&B far away from his family(hehe) and are going to tour the surrounding country side. I have just four words for you, EAST COAST IN FALL!!! Megan always wanted to go somewhere nice for her honeymoon, I think New York in the fall counts, don't you?

Of coarse it's got the rest of her family and friends talking about where they want to go, or have been on their respective honeymoonings! Hawaii of coarse is a big one, tropical cruises, Alaskan cruises, New York, Paris, Italy, the Provence region of France. As for me? Well whenever I mention my idea everybody looks at me funny, wrinkles up their noses, cocks their heads to one side going ,"whaaaaaaat???" and then shrug their shoulders. I don't think it's that odd of an idea!

I've always wanted to take a camping road trip down Highway 101 and end up at Disneyland. Now is that so weird? Picture this........................a drive(preferably not me driving of coarse!) down one of the worlds most beautiful highways listening to some awesome tunes on the radio, talking to your one and only about everything and anything, stopping to take in the sites along the way, taking memory card after memory card of beautiful pictures. Stopping at a new spot each night walking on the beach at sun set and sunrise then tossing your tent in the back of the car not a care in the world. And where do you end up? At the happiest place on earth of coarse! I love Disneyland and would love to go again.

I don't care if it's weird to want to camp and go to a place swarming with kids on my honeymoon! You can just look at me funny, wrinkle your nose, cock your head to the side and go, "waaaaaat?" Then shrug your shoulders as I drive away for a week or more of perfect bliss!=)

It's All Over

Whew! It's all over, the months of planning and fighting and making and setting up and calling and decorating and cooking all culminated on the date of October 3. We put hours of work into the wedding and it was all over in about 4 hours. It was lots and lots of hard work but it was really, really fun. I love planning things like this, me and a couple other girls were talking about going into the wedding biz. Sounds like lots of fun, but dealing with Bridezillas for a living.......one was enough for me thank you!(hehe)

Megan's room is now empty, the movers having left about an hour ago, it only took them 7 hours to pack up that one room. I'm not sure I would want that company coming in and doing my whole house! They did an excellent job though, they wrapped everything in paper and put it in packing crates and strapped it down really well into the truck.

She is on her way to Portland and I will not see her until at the earliest Christmas. I will miss my older sister, the one I cold talk to and know she would keep my secret. The older sister who would tell me things in return and share her life with me. I will miss the older sister who didn't make fun of me for the things I liked and put up with my few(well maybe more then few....)eccentric habits. I will miss the older sister who would treat me at home like she would when people were around.

This older sister has not always been around, but I will miss her anyways good and bad times. I can't help it, she's my sister no matter how she's treated me or what she's done to me I have to and will always love her and forgive her no mater what she's done. It will be a big change not having her around, she belongs to somebody else now. But considering how annoyed she was with me most of the time maybe that's a good thing!=)

For anyone readin this who is intersted here is a link to some of the wedding pics!

My Life as the MOHO

My sister and I had always said that we would be each others Maids of Honor. Whoever got married second would have to find some one else to be the "maid". In movies and books the list of duties is long and rather varied, here are the ten duteis I have as MOHO!.

1: Wedding dress(check)
While I didn't get to see Megan on one of those pedestals in a mirrored room, I still helped out with the dress. It's all done now, all sewn and hanging up in her room. That was an experience! Beads flying everywhere and all the machines that touched it throwing up and breaking!

2: Helping her make decisions(check)
She got really annoyed during this one, when ever we'd mention something she'd just say I don't know! Then I'd tell her she has to know, she'd get mad then she would come up with a choice. This one was kind of hard to marry(hehe, marry!) with the next one......

3: Be happy and cheerful about everything the bride wants(kind of check!)
What if the bride won't make a choice and you have to a little mean to get her to make a decision? What if the bride gets cold and you were honestly worried about her being uncomfortable? I did try to be as nice as possible, but I am only human after all....=)

4: Look unfortunate in the "beautiful" dress the bride has chosen to make her look even hotter then usual(check! But, it's not the dress, I achieve that one naturally!)
The dresses she picked out for us to make are pretty and the look good on all of us! Score one for Bridezilla(she calls herself that, I'm not being mean here!)

5: Throw her parties: shower and bachelorette(check)
The shower and the bachelorette party went off rather well. All had a good time and we even got embarrassing video for Shawn to see after all is said and done!

6: Help with favors, flowers, buying decorations etc etc etc(check, check, and check)
The favors are finished as of Sunday night, the flowers are being ordered and the decorations are all bought. Now we just need to set them all up, and we can't exactly do that part yet!

7: Wedding Day duties(no check yet!)
I will fluff her veil, take pictures during the bride prep time. Stand next to her as she begins this next chapter in her life, tearing up and holding her flowers. I will pose for countless pictures even though I look rather odd on film, though that will help with number four!

8: Reception speech(not sure about this one yet!)
I'd never heard of the MOHO giving a toast; at all of the countless wedding I've attended of coarse............ If she wants me to give a speech I will, but I am not the type to make people cry, so it would have to make them laugh! Not about her in a mean way of coarse, but I just can't be sentimental; it comes off as weird when I try. I was told no and received shudders when I mentioned this before, so I'm thinking she doesn't want to hand me a mike!

9: Participate in the bouquet toss
There are some real contenders at this point, so well see If I even get close. I was never good at 500!

10: Cry buckets and throw rice(or bird seed in her case) at her and Shawn as they leave. Help decorate the "get away" car
I will be all over this one, I might even throw in a shoe for good luck! So far we've been told to keep it pretty tame with the car decorating but when Mark gets involved........who knows(hehe)

Who Knew?

We all want to live in a movie right? I bet even the most rational of you have wanted to, at some point with that certain movie! The handsome "prince", the way bad people are punished and the way good deeds are always rewarded and usually right away! I have always had my head in the clouds and fantasized about wanting to live in whatever movie I've just watched(some more then others, like I am making my way though the Bourne movies right now. Ekkkk!)

Who knew out of all of the movies I've watched it would be 27 Dresses-Father of the Bride that my life is like right now! It couldn't be any of the other countless movies I've fantasized about over the years! Weeelll, to be fair I guess it's not exactly like those movies we don't have a Frank(say it with the accent included please!) helping us and as far as I can tell no James Marsden has come a courtin' at my door!(though hopefully someone a little more silly and a little less full of him self then James Marsden would come a courtin'!)and I was never in love with the brides man!!

So far all of the things you see about wedding planning in the movies is true. Who knew figuring out the guest list would be hard. Just invite the people you like and you know would want to see you get married. Simple and straight forward right? Who knew that figuring out what colors, flowers, where, when etc etc etc and all of that would be so difficult! We've had balls for over 300 people and they where a little stressful, but nowhere near this stressful. What is about planning the happiest day of someones life that gets everyone so upset?

I'm so not sure about wanting to live in the movies anymore. So far the experience hasn't been much fun! Unlike the movies I can't get up and leave or just turn it off when it gets really scary(hehe) Well, good bye faithful reader(s) I am wanted in the touture chamber; oops I mean kitchen, to hash over the guest list once more! HELP ME!!!
