Day Fourteen~A Vacation You Would Like to Take

~Ireland~
Hands down, if I could pick one place in the world to visit, then be stuck in Oregon for the rest of my life, Ireland is where I would go. Do not ask me where this obsession came from, but I've been obsessed with this country since I was 11.

~Disney Land~
A much more realistic pick, don't you think? I would love the experience the happiest place on earth, as weird as it may seem, with no kids along for the ride. Don't get me wrong, I love kids and that's what I want to do with my life, get married and a have a family. But, now that I'm a grown up, I would like to return to a state of child like bliss and wouldn't be able to do that if I had to be responsible for someone besides myself!=)

Yes I know, I know, once again please do not judge! I love the Caramel macchiato and even if you hate Starbucks you need to go and try their apple fritters, yum!!!=)

SunDance

I stumbled across this site http://www.sundancecatalog.com/ in my blog exploring and fell in love. If I ever have more money then Dave Ramsey I will shop here! Does anyone want to live there with me?=)

Day Eight~A Thank You Letter to Someone Who Changed Your Life

I am horrible at things like this, *deep breath* but here we go!

Dear Person Who Has Changed My Life,
    From the very first moment I met you, you have been influencing me. From what I wear, to what I watch and listen to, you are always there in the back of my head telling me how to be a better person. I've resisted, yes, even fought with words and stubbornness, but you always prevailed. Even when I already know what your opinion is going to be, even if I know you'll not like whatever it is, I still need to know what you think. So, Thank you, for putting up with me, for telling me the truth, sugar coated when necessary. For listening to my endless rantings about how they always put mayo and onions on things when I've ordered them off. Thank you for loving me, for being my best friend, I love you Mom!

Love,
KatySue

Day Seven~5 Things I Couldn't Live Without

Like many other bloggers before me, I'm going to include only things, so the obvious like God, air, family, friends etc. etc. etc. will be absent from the list! It's not necessarily in order either, just a random list of five things I couldn't imagine living without!

~Books~
If I was being forced to choose between only having one or the other, books or screens, for the rest of my life, books would win hands down!!

~Computers~
Considering my last statement this might seem an odd choice, I didn't say I didn't love computers, just that I loved books more. Thanks goodness no one is making me choose!

~Music~
Even though I can't make it, I couldn't imagine life without it!

~Dessert~
What else is there to say, yumm!!!

~My sewing machine~
I don't know how I would dress if I didn't have my sewing machine, how I dress is such a part of who I am. Gee whiz, that sounds awfully shallow, doesn't it?=)

Day Six~A Moment You Wish You Could Relive

I've seen this day done two ways, a moment you want to change and a moment that was so wonderful you want to experience it all over again. Maybe I'm odd, but there isn't really a moment I would do either with. All of the mistakes I've made have made me a better person and as for reliving a wonderful moment, my memories are way better then the actual event, so why go back and mess them up?

There is one day that I almost want to go back and change, but it was such a wonderful/horrible day that I don't  want to go back and change anything. The bad thing, while heart wrenching was something I needed VERY much and even the good part was tinged in nervousness and butterflies the size of pick up trucks in my stomach!

I am a worrier and used to drive myself nuts wanting to change the past and know the future. Over the years I've learned that God is in control and no longer worry about what's happened in the past. Now if I could just stop worrying about my future.....=)

Day Four~ A Favorite Television Show

USA has turned out a couple of my favorite shows over the years. Monk, Psych, and now this one! Royal Pains is my favorite show that is still on.

So sue me, I'm picking two things again. This. Was. The. Best. Show. Ever! But, due to the rather bad timing of the writers strike and a not very well advertised second season it was cancelled after the second season.
There was mystery, awesome wardrobe, musical numbers, the guy owned a pie shop for goodness sake. There couldn't have made a more perfect show for me if I'd written it! If anyone is interested in watching it, NetFlix has it streaming right now.=)

Day Three~ A Favorite Book

Once again I am posting two choices instead of one. Can you tell I have a hard time making decisions?=)

This is the best version of Beauty and the Beast that I have ever read(except for the one I wrote of course!!) and believe me, I have read a lot of them!

There were three books that I call my favorites, but as the other one is yet another version of Beauty and the Beast, I decided to do this one instead! The first time I read it, after I finished , I closed it, held it to my chest for a few moments, then turned to the beginning and read it again! Yes, it is that good!!=)

Day Two~ A Favorite Movie

I love this movie, the family in it reminds me of my own! If you've never seen it you should definitely put it on your must watch list.=)

My favorite artist singing one of my favorite songs!

Okay, okay. I know it's supposed to be one favorite song, but I love them both the same. It would be heartless of you to make me choose between them!!

There, day one done, see you tomorrow!=)

My Shoulder Minions

How many times have you seen the set up where someone is tyring to make a choice and all of the sudden an angel will pop up on one shoulder and a little devil will show up on the other. Then most likely a fight will ensue between said shoulders minions, it will start out verbal but quickly escalate into a slapping, hair pulling, knock down drag out on the ground brawl. Then the person who these minions belong to will throw their hands up in disgust and walk away, no decision having been reached.

You've all seen that set up? Good, so we have established our base line here. My shoulder minions aren't exactly an angel and devil but rather two very different sides of my personality, one is a dewy eyed romantic who tears up at hallmark commercials and the other is a mouthy sarcastic who regularly slaps the other one.....don't worry about the dewy eyed romantic, she really does need it sometimes and she knows it.=)

I'm always arguing with these two and it's about even who wins, me, myself, or I. But, just recently there was what we all decided to call "The Incident" and that  is the only part we agree on. It all started on a quiet drive to church one Sunday morning a few weeks ago. When all of the sudden we see them, two squirrels in the middle of the road. My Mom swerves to miss them and as we are passing them, I look out my window, and this is what I see. One is lying on the ground obviously dead(or dying) and the other one is holding on to it's little shoulder, shaking as if to rouse him.

Now, I had three very different thoughts about this sight. The rational part of me thought, hmm I'm glad we didn't hit them.

The dewy eyed romantic is already tearing up and concocting a story she knows must be true, about the poor lady squirrel trying to revive her husband and now she will have to raise all their little babies alone.

The mouthy sarcastic, on the other hand is rolling her eyes and taking delight in making the dewy eyed romantic squirm by insisting that the live one was most likely trying to rip of a piece of the dead one to eat.

Now, you would think that this was the end of the story, right? Nope! For some reason the shoulder minions will not leave this one alone, the dewy eyed romantic is warring with herself because she knows that her version of the story is the true one, but the knowledge that squirrels do in fact eat meat had been revealed to her (this took some getting used to for the both of us, we couldn't imagine those cute little fluff balls eating meat. The mouthy sarcastic had to slap us both about that one!)

There lies the struggle, the dewy eyed romantic keeps fantasizing about the poor squirrel family and the mouthy sarcastic is delighting in taunting her with the knowledge of meat eating squirrels. They won't stop, and they are driving me crazy! I 'm stuck in the middle, a helpless mediator in my own mind. Let me ask you, what's a girl to do??

Modern Anne

This is Day four of http://bramblewoodfashion.blogspot.com/ Anne of Green Gables fashion week!

Sad enough to say, I have lots of clothes that would inspire thoughts of Anne in my winter wardrobe, but those touches never have made it into my summer one. Humph, and I am far to lazy to unpack my winter clothes and far to fond of not roasting in my sweaters and long wool skirts!!

Then I found this shirt, it has little puffed sleeves, a mandarin collar and a lace yoke. How perfect, right? Now, the old synapses have started to fire once more and "someone" has a stiff back from hunching like Quasimodo all day because the reason this shirt was in the *I need to make it over* pile was because of some length shrinkage issues! *Sigh* But, it's Anne fashion week gosh darn it and I wanted to participate! Now excuse me while I go and put on a knee length shirt and make dinner!!

Are my legs really that pale, compared to my arms? Gosh, here I thought the * I know! Let's not put sunblock on them and roast them every time we were outside* plan was working, apparently not! =P

The earrings I wore today, they are decidedly Anne-y to me, probably because of the color and pearls. I love making earrings like this, you buy them complete; except for the earring hooks. You then go home, spend a minute putting on some earring hooks and then bam! Every time someone asks you where you got the beautiful earrings you can say,I made them and watch their eyes bug out..... wait, that's not bad is it?? hehe ;)

Anne Trivia

I don't know about you, but I love trivia about my favorite movies. So, here is a collection of some of the trivia I've discovered about the Anne movies. This is day three of http://bramblewoodfashion.blogspot.com/  Anne of Green Gables week.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'Schuyler Grant' auditioned for the role of Anne Shirley before she was eventually cast as Diana Barry.
The scene where Mrs. Hammond brings Anne to the orphanage was done last.
The scene in the kitchen in which Anne tells Marilla she will apologize to Mrs. Lynde was shot with a body double for Richard Farnsworth as his schedule could not permit him to be there. All close-up shots were filmed later.
Katharine Hepburn was originally approached to play Marilla Cuthbert. She declined, but suggested her relative (great-niece), 'Schuyler Grant' for the part of Anne.
The scene where Anne and Marilla are walking back from Mrs. Lynde's after Anne's theatrical apology was the very first to be filmed.
A lot of the scenes, mainly long shots, were made before any of the characters were cast.
Megan Follows beat out 3,000 girls for the role of Anne Shirley.
Colleen Dewhurst grew up on Prince Edward Island.
The line Hattie Pringle says about not wanting to bruise herself fainting on stage is said by the character Amy in the novel "Little Women".
Though the American title is "Anne of Avonlea", it is only partially based on that L.M. Montgomery book, the second in the series, and is in fact based on parts from that and the third and fourth books in the series (out of eight).
This film takes pieces from several subsequent books because Kevin Sullivan thought there wasn't "enough dramatic material for a film" in the sequel "Anne of Avonlea" alone.
Kevin Sullivan says that Anne's hairstyles kept getting bigger and more eccentric as filming went on. One of Anne's hairstyles he found to be particularly extravagant was when Anne and Gilbert walk along the lane discussing "Averil's Atonement". The hairstyle Anne sports towards the end of the movie when she goes to visit Gilbert when he's sick was the least favorite of Sullivan's.
For the cow scene in which Anne and Diana fall into the mud, the costume department made four dresses. However, Megan Follows did the stunt in one take, and the others were not needed.
If you look closely at the doors in the kitchen, they are closed in every scene. This is due to the fact that for this movie they only rebuilt the kitchen, and there is nothing behind those doors.
It took quite a few takes to get Diana's bed to break correctly when Anne and Dianna fall on it during the bedroom scene before Diana's wedding.
Cameo: [Hagood Hardy] playing the organ during Diana's wedding.
While shooting the scene where Anne says goodbye to Marilla and Rachel before she leaves for Kingsport, Colleen Dewhurst was wearing jeans under her dress because she had to catch a plane in an hour.
One of the first scenes shot with Dame Wendy Hiller was the picnic scene. She had just recently had an operation and while climbing into the buggy for the scene, her hip was displaced. Everyone was confused and nervous, wondering if she had had a heart attack. When Sullivan got over to her, she said, "Get me a whiskey, dear boy." Unfortunately, her humorous mood was short-lived and she wanted to return to England at once, without finishing the film. Sullivan had to work hard to get her to stay.
It was Dame Wendy Hiller's idea to add the scenes concerning Mrs. Harris's death. She wanted a dénouement for her character. She and Sullivan discussed it and thought Mrs. Harris should "expire". Her death allowed Anne the opportunity to "free Pauline".
Easy Hairstick tutoial
Hi Girls! (Or boys if any have come across this!) For day two of the ANNE OF GREEN GABLES FASHION WEEK I've done a hair tutorial. I have always loved Anne's hair, who hasn't wanted her beautiful red hair at one point or another? Except other red heads of course.=)
As much as I tried I could never get my hair an elegant and Anne like bun. Alas, my hair would have to be down to my tail bone before the length would wrap around enough to tuck under the ends. I guess just like red heads everybody but the people "blessed" with super thick hair want thick hair!
I had hair down to about 4-5 inches above my tail bone, but lower back length curly hair was just to much darn work! So, I got it cut above my shoulders and now have hair out past my shoulders.....bad idea! Anyway, I was messing around with my hair and came up with this, a super easy bun tutorial that will work on almost every kind of hair.
I know that my hair is straight in the video, but it's been super hot, so I've been avoiding the hair dryer and just washing and throwing my hair up in a pony tail using one of THESE super cute, yes, super expensive, barrettes. But, it hold up all of my hair, comfortably all day and has lasted for three years, I say that's worth the $21 I paid for it!
If your hair is longer then mine you can wrap the extra hair around the bun and secure with a hair pin or pull through that last time with the ends on top so the cascade down over the bun. That's what I'll do when my hair gets longer!=)
I really want one of these HAIR DAGGERS but my Mom said she wouldn't let me wear it out of the house, to scary! Besides no matter how cool $80 is to much for a hair accessory! Maybe you could make a wooden one, or dull a sword letter opener. You can accessorise your bun with flowers, feathers, ribbon, anything really I just couldn't find anything that I like! Have a great day!=)
I would love to see this on other peoples hair, so take pics and send me a link if you try it! Also if you have any questions just leave a comment,. You can see what's going on a little better if you make it full screen!
All you need is a hair elastic(I use the thick non metal parts kind) and a hair stick.
House o' Dreams(Drama Club)
Starting today Ashley over at BRAMBLE WOOD FASHION is hosting an Anne of Green Gables fashion week. How could I not participate in that??=)
Day one was going to be a dress that I thought would be perfect, but after having been proactive in finishing it, even to the point of taking pics before hand a slight(okay huge!) flaw was found in the fabric of the dress. Which might be a sheet "borrowed".....okay, stolen from the costume room clean up. There was no room for it in the fabric bin and what were they going to use an old sheet for anyway.....(blush!)
Ahem, so on to the post for today! A pic of some scenery straight out of the movie and a word picture!
I took this pic while camping at the beach with some friends last summer. It reminds me of where Anne first met Emmaline's father. I can't for the life of me remember his name though!
Today you are going to get a tour of my very own House o' Dreams!
A cool, misty breeze plays against your face as you stand looking out over the crashing waves. The scent of the sea and green growing things fill your senses. You can feel the beat of the waves as they crash against the cliff face far below you. The sight of the setting sun turning the sky a brilliant rainbow of reds and oranges setting the sea below aflame reminds you that it's time to go. You take one last long look at the sea you love so dearly and turn to go. You can hear the sigh of the wind and imagine it's telling you good bye.
You walk down a path through the leafy moss covered trees, ferns brushing against your ankles. The breeze rustles the leaves in the trees making them sound as if they are having whispered conversations that only God can know. Every once in a while you catch a glimpse of the ocean through a break in the trees, its constant whoosh muffled by the trees. You round one last bend and then you see it, your home!
Tucked on a hill side above the shore; against a forest full of enchanted things, sits the little piece of heaven on earth God has seen fit to bless you with! Close enough to hear the lullaby of the waves but far enough into the trees to be protected from the fierce power of the ocean when a storm has come. How you love to watch the waves grow higher and hear the thunder boom in response, the lightening illuminating the storm tossed sea in almost terrifying flashes.
You stop and take in the view for a moment. The house is small, but that's how you like it, you can't stay mad at the ones you love in a small house! The covered front porch is deep and wide, how you love to sit out there in your rocking chair with a book sitting forgotten in your lap as you contemplate the wonder of your Saviors creation.
The deep brown color reminds you of chocolate and the white of marshmallow. Your favorite drink inspired this color combination! The flowers that grow in riot up around the porch are in full bloom, the many colors and scents making for a heady experience as you get closer. You absentmindedly place your hand upon the gate post, it's weathered gray surface worn smooth by the hands of the many friends that have done the same.
You hurry down the stone path and bound up the steps as the rain starts to come down. Even though darkness has fallen outside the light hasn't left your home. The soft colors of the sea and shore grace your home. The soft blue-grays and greens of the sea. The light yellows, creams, pinks of the shore have inspired you in your decorating. No anchors or pelicans in sight, but more subtle touches of the coast have found there way into your home. The sand dollars you search so hard to find line the mantle, only the perfect ones please! Drift wood worn smooth by the relentless tide, sea glass, pebbles, shells and a few prize Japaneses glass floats are also scattered about. In the center of the mantle sits your favorite find ever..........do you know what happens when lightning hits the sand?
Pictures of your happy life line the walls, book cases filled with the books you love so much, the joyful voices of loved ones filling the silence and the wonderful feeling of love and peace that fills a Godly home make this your sanctuary. This is home.
So ends the tour, sorry abut the length! I hope you have enjoyed this glimpse into one of my air castles. If you've even made it this far, and if you have I applaud you; this is very long!=)
The Beginning.....
I could tell you that I'm the tall, slender; wait, willowy, yes willowy is a much better word. Where was I, oh yes.....
I could tell you heat I'm the tall, willowy blond with big violet eyes and a tinkling laugh who is standing at the front desk making her way through the world by the power of her good looks and charm. Or, I could be the girl sitting in the background. Sewing machine in front of her, silent for now as she stares out at the world from behind the racks of wedding dresses. You can't see the frizzy brown hair, the apple cheeks, the shy down cast eyes and her innate awkwardness in all social situations.
How would you know, right? Your not here, it would be easy to convince you that I'm something I'm not. But, that would make this story much less interesting and we would lose the whole point. Since you have bothered to pick up this book and are still reading at this point, you're going to get the truth.
I am not the tall, willowy, blond. Shocker, right? I mean, with an opening like that, did you really expect me to be? That beautiful girl at the front desk is my older sister, Samantha. But, you can call her Sammie, giggle, smile! Sorry about that, I'm just tyring to keep true to character here.
That leaves the round faced girl hiding in the back. Yep, that's me! If you could see me, you would see me waving, but since you can't (as previously established!),  you'll just have to trust me that I'm waving right now! My name is Grace, but do not call me Gracie or I will be forced to, um, glare at you and write mean things about you on my blog!
My sister and I both worked at our Aunt Rosie's wedding store, Happily Ever After. Sounds fun, right? It is, for the most part. Sammie worked the front desk and helps the brides pick out dresses and I am the "assistant". Which means I do whatever I'm told and I help Aunt Rosie alter the dresses. That's what I'm doing right now, or should be doing right now. Instead I've got my laptop out; his name is Harold by the way, and am writing down the events that have taken place.
Like how Sammie is now married to the love of her life (and mine, but we will get to that later!) is pregnant and living the perfect all American life. What about you Grace, you might be asking. Well, I fell in love, had my heart broken, planned a wedding and had my secret double life exposed and boy did that case some ruckus! But, I'm getting ahead of myself here. Let's go back to were it all started,  Starbucks! What, you were expecting somewhere different?
Once upon a time.....
I *heart* Cherries!
If you will remember back to THIS POST, it showed you a couple sewing projects I was working on. For an update, I didn't finish the cardigan dress for Easter, in fact it's still sitting in my closet sad and lonely. The belted idea didn't work out to hot, if any one else has a good idea let me know!
The polka dot fabric and the rose fabric are next in line, well after I fix a friends skirts and copy THIS DRESS. I have been sewing, just nothing on that list! I did finish the cherry dress, that makes three dresses with cherries on them. I guess one has been chopped into a skirt after an unfortunate experience at the county fair, but that is another rather embarrassing story.....involving references to cows and milking.....
Any whoooooo, back to the reason for this post, a completed project!
Yes, there is something sticking out of the side of my head, it's my hair stick!
Big pockets, yeah for pockets!!
 I made this necklace out of an old ring that I wasn't wearing any more and the colors happen to go well with the dress.
After looking foreeeever for a pair of cherry earrings I just went ahead and made some myself! Can you see a theme....even my car air freshener is shaped like cherries. Yes, I do have a problem, I'm looking into the twelve step program, but I keep getting distracted by all the cherries on the pamphlet!
Not Yo' Mama's Banana Pudding
My family got this recipe off of one of our favorite food network shows. Yes, we watch cooking shows on TV, if you have a problem with that, no more dessert for you! We tweaked it a little, we can't seem to help it and came up with the home run of banana puddings.  I wanted to try it at first just because of the awesome name!=)
We always take it to potlucks because it makes an 11x15 and me Mom and I are the only ones who really like it and we do not need half a pan each. It's always a hit and we have people coming up and asking for the recipe, so without further ado, well maybe they'll be a little bit more ado.....  ;)
The bottom layer, you don't have to lay the cookies and bananas in rows like this. My Mom just cuts the bananas directly into the pan and lets them fall were the may then kind of spreads them out. But I, with my sometimes neurotic mind has to put them in there all pretty like!
Paula says to put one bag of cookies on the bottom and one on the top, but I found I like to completely cover the bottom of the pan and that only leaves about 3/4 (or 16 cookies) of a bag left, so I just lay them out evenly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Not Yo' Mama's Banana Pudding
2 bags Pepperidge Farm Chessmen cookies

6 to 8 bananas, sliced( I only use about 4-5, but that's because I lay mine out and you can't fit 6-8 in there laid out like that!)

2 cups milk

1 (5-ounce) box instant Banana pudding(or two of the smaller boxes, yes they are 3 ounces each, and yes, that adds up to 6. I never add any extra milk and it turns out fine, just don't tell my Mom, okay?!?)

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened

1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

1 (12-ounce) container frozen whipped topping thawed, or equal amount sweetened whipped cream( whip two cups of cream with a 1/3 cup powdered sugar and 2 teaspoons vanilla to get an equal amount to the cool whip)

Directions

Line the bottom of a 13 by 9 by 2-inch dish with 1 bag of cookies and layer bananas on top.
In a bowl, combine the milk and pudding mix and blend well using a handheld electric mixer. Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together and mix until smooth. Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture. Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended. Pour the mixture over the cookies and bananas and cover with the remaining cookies. Refrigerate until ready to serve
